The WoodMaster Bath floor staining process:
- Step 1 – We carry out a full site survey and provide a full written estimate. We discuss the best approach with your floor and agree with you on the cost, then schedule a suitable time to attend.
- Step 2 – We will begin our work with a full sanding of the boards to strip away all previous coatings. This exposes the virgin boards. Our machines leave the wooden floor smooth and flat. We use different machines for best results depending on the type of wood.
- Step 3 – Once the old sealer has been removed we treat the floor with our 3 head finishing machine. This sands out micro-fine scratches caused by sanding. At this point, the floor is smooth enough for us to apply the sealer.
- Step 4 – We demonstrate the possible finishes and stain options so that you can see exactly what the finish will look like. We can use a natural lacquer for a beautiful and durable finish or stains can be applied if you would like to alter the look of the floor more dramatically with a new colour.
- Step 5 – A base coat is used to fill up the wood and provide the first layer of protection.
- Step 6 – When the base coat is dry, we sand the floor again to remove any areas that spike up from the base coat. This step prepares the floor for the final finish.
- Step 7 – We apply two coats of top finish. The top finish is a 1 or 2 pack lacquer depending on the wood. We apply oils when a colour change has been carried out or when an enhanced level of smoothness is needed.
- Step 8 – When everything is dry, the floor will be ready for use. We’ll let you know how long you should leave the floor before walking on it, it’s typically a couple of hours.
When the work is complete, we are happy to share maintenance advice and advise on after-care products.
