Solid hardwood flooring usually has a pre-finish, so it is ready for use as soon as it is fitted. However, in areas that experience lots of spills or foot traffic we recommend that an additional coat of lacquer is applied.
Regular wood floor cleaning with TileMaster Belfast
You can help to look after your wooden floor with simple day-to-day maintenance, such as vacuuming and sweeping. The floors will benefit from being mopped occasionally too. If the floors have a large surface area, the TileMaster 40 machine or the TileMaster Scrubber dryer machine are the best option for cleaning. TileMaster Cleaner No. 1 solution is recommended if there is a lot of dirt ingrained in the surface of the floor. This solution can be added to water, or to the scrubber dryer.
Any floors that have been re-lacquered recently should not be cleaned for at least 3 days (72 hours).
Important information if using water
If using water for cleaning, try to use as little as possible. Make sure that your mop is well wrung out, any excess pools can cause water damage including swelling.
Light restoration
If your wooden floor has lost its shine you should use our specialist refresh product to cover minor scratches and marks. For heavier damage, we can do a gentle sand with a mesh disk and top up the lacquer for you. This will bring dull-looking surfaces back to life and protect the floor from when it was first sanded.
Long-term wood floor maintenance tips
Over time, the lacquered surface will fade and become worn. In this case, the floor should be cleaned carefully, gently sanded and then re-coated with lacquer. The length of time between maintenance coats should be chosen based on the amount of use the floor gets.
If the floors are in high traffic commercial areas including shops and restaurants, they will require resealing more often than those in quiet homes. You should have the floors resealed before the lacquer begins to wear through to the wood beneath to avoid damage. A regular inspection during cleaning and maintenance will help to identify this.
Wood floor protection methods and tips for our customers in Belfast
Felt pads on Furniture
The main cause of marks and scuffs on wooden floors is dragged furniture. You can avoid this by using felt pads on chairs and sofa legs. These pads will not last forever, so remember to replace them occasionally. For office chairs, try to use plastic mats to decrease wear and tear.
Barrier mats
A high-quality barrier mat is the ideal way to keep dirt, grime, water, and grit from damaging your floors. Mats should be the appropriate size and type to suit the type of building and the number of users.
Stain removal tips
You will find that it is a lot more difficult to remove dry stains than it is to deal with fresh spillages. Always make sure that you clean any spillages and stains as soon as possible.

How to prevent slips and trips
Junckers floor will have slip resistance if it is properly maintained and installed, but it will need to be cleaned regularly. Spillages will make the floor slippery. To reduce the likelihood of an accident, always clean up spills immediately or as soon as possible.
Using adhesive tape and masking materials
When using tapes and masking materials we suggest only low-tack tapes. The adhesive on tape can have a very high tack value, which can damage the protective layer of lacquer if you remove the tape too quickly.
