A solid hardwood floor is generally installed pre-finished with lacquer and is ready to use as soon as it has been set in place. In buildings that experience very high levels of foot traffic, however, or with floors that suffer spillages and require frequent cleaning, a further coat of lacquer after installation may be advisable.
Regular cleaning
Wooden floors should be regularly swept and vacuumed, and when necessary wiped with a damp, but not wet, mop or cloth. For large floors, our own TileMaster 40 machine or TileMaster Scrubber dryer machine is ideal for maintenance cleans. To increase the removal of dirt from the surface of the floor, a solution of TileMaster Cleaner No1 is recommended and can be mixed with the cleaning water or added to the scrubber dryer.
Floors which have recently been re-lacquered should not be cleaned for 72 hours minimum.
Use of water – Important
Try to use as little water as possible for cleaning wooden flooring, and remove any excess pooling as soon as possible to prevent swelling or other types of water damage.
Protection & light restoration of the surface
If your floor has lost is freshly laid shine, you can apply our specialist refresh product to treat minor scratches. If the damage is more serious, we recommend light sand using a mesh disk. A top up of the lacquer can be used to revive a faded looking surface and guard the floor from when it was first sanded.
Long term maintenance
Periodically, when the lacquered surface gets worn out, the floor should be cleaned, gently sanded and then over-coated with new lacquer. The exact amount of time between maintenance coats depends primarily on the level of foot traffic the floor receives.
Floors in busy commercial areas like as retail spaces, offices etc. should be resealed more frequently than residential floors. It’s important that your floors are resealed before the lacquer wears through to bare wood, so regular inspection is vital.
Floor protection methods
Felt pads
Furniture is perhaps the main cause of marks to hard wood floors, but you can combat this problem easily by fitting felt pads to chair or sofa legs. Remember these pads will wear out eventually, so replace them often. Damage from office chairs and other furniture can be reduced with purpose made plastic mats.
Barrier matting
A good quality barrier mat is a very good way to prevent dirt, water and grit from affecting the floor. Mats must be big enough and the correct type to fit the type of building and number of users.
Stain removal
Dried stains are normally more difficult to get rid of than fresh ones, so try make sure you clean up any spillages and stains as soon as you can.

Prevention of slips and trips
A properly serviced and installed Junckers floor will have better slip resistance, but any spillages will make the floor more dangerous and increase the likelihood of accidents, so you should always wipe them up right away.
Use of adhesive tape and masking materials etc.
Try to use low tack adhesive tapes and masking materials, like the ones our technicians use. Adhesive on tape and logos sometimes have a very high tack value, which can guard the protective layer of lacquer when they’re pulled off quickly.
