The wood floor polishing process at WoodMaster Frome:
- Step 1 – Before we start, we will do a survey and provide you with a written estimate, without charge. This will determine what requirements your wooden floor has and what techniques we’ll need to use. Once we have agreed on the price of the project we will schedule a suitable time and date for staff to attend.
- Step 2 – On the day, any old sealers will be completely stripped from all edges right up to the skirting boards. We will then treat the floor with our 3 head finishing machine and this will get rid of any fine scratches that occurred during the sanding process. This makes the floor super smooth and ready for the sealer.
- Step 3 – Next, finishes and stain options are put on the floor so the client can get a good idea of what the wooden floor will look like. At this stage, we can also use a natural lacquer. This gives the floor a natural and lasting finish, and we can even apply a stain that will change the colour and the appearance of the floor completely.
- Step 4 – The next step involves adding a base coat that will fill up the wood and provide the floor with its first stage of protection.
- Step 5 – We will sand the surface to smooth any areas that prickle up from the base coat of the sealer, once the base coat is dry. This prepares the floor for the final finish.
- Step 6 – Next we will use two coats of top finish. This can be a 1 or 2 pack lacquer, depending on the floor. If the floor has had a colour change or if the smoothness needs enhancing, we can also apply oils.
- Step 7 – Once the floor is dry, the restoration is complete. We will hand it over and within a few hours, the furniture can be returned.
We provide full maintenance advice and we can give you guidance on after-care products if requested.

We are happy to give a ballpark figure from pictures and room sizes, as this can help customer budgeting on renovation projects if they are unsure whether to restore or replace, but ultimately we would need to carry out a full survey and demo before any work can take place.
The length of time required for the floor to dry depends on the type of product that is used. We will advise you once work is complete.
All products used are within the manufacturer’s guidelines, and where applicable your flooring manufacture own brand products can be used.
Depending on the type of wood and condition, excellent results can be achieved with our restoration services as we are bringing back a fresh new layer of the wood. However, an old Victorian pine floor will always look aged and have patina but this is often seen as a positive with the character of a period property.
