The WoodMaster floor staining process:
● Step 1 – We will provide a full written estimate and we discuss the best approach for your floor. We ensure that you agree on the cost and then we will schedule a suitable time and date to work.
● Step 2 – Full sanding of the boards to strip away all old lacquer & oils. This will bring back the bare boards. Our large industrial belt and planetary sanding machines leave the wooden floor smooth and perfectly flat.
● Step 3 – When the old sealer has been stripped, we treat the floor with our 3 head finishing machine. This will sand out micro-fine scratches. At this point, the floor will be smooth and ready for the sealer.
● Step 4 – We will give you a demo of the possible finishes and stain options. We apply these on your floor so you can see exactly what the finish will look like. Stains can also be applied if you would like to alter the look of the floor more dramatically with a new colour, or natural lacquer will preserve the original look.
● Step 5 – A base coat will be applied to fill up the wood and provide the first layer of protection.
● Step 6 – When the base coat is dry, we then sand the floor again to remove any areas that prickle up from the base coat. This step readies the floor for the final coats of finish.
● Step 7 – We apply two coats of top finish. The top finish is a 1 or 2 pack lacquer depending on the type of wood. We then apply oils when a colour change is requested or when an increased level of smoothness is needed.
● Step 8 – When everything is dry, the floor is ready to use once again. We’ll let you know how long to leave the floor before walking on it.
When the work is complete, we are happy to provide maintenance advice & after-care products.

Depending on the type of wood and condition, excellent results can be achieved with our restoration services as we are bringing back a fresh new layer of the wood. However, an old Victorian pine floor will always look aged and have patina but this is often seen as a positive with the character of a period property.
