Generally, solid hardwood flooring arrives finished so it is ready for use after it is fitted. However, in areas that experience heavy use or foot traffic, it is recommended that an additional coat of protective lacquer is applied.
Regular wood floor cleaning with TileMaster Stockport
You can help keep your wooden floor in good condition with regular maintenance, like vacuuming and sweeping. Occasional mopping is also recommended. If the floors have a large surface, the TileMaster 40 machine or the TileMaster Scrubber dryer could be the best option. TileMaster Cleaner No. 1 solution is recommended when there is a lot of dirt to remove from the surface of the wood. This solution should be added to water or can be used in the scrubber dryer.
Any floors that have been re-lacquered recently should not be cleaned for 3 days, or 72 hours.
Important information if using water
If using water for cleaning, try to use as little as you can. Make sure that your mop is wrung out thoroughly as any excess water can cause damage including swelling.
Light restoration
If your wooden floor has lost its shine you can apply our specialist refresh product to mask minor scratches and marks. For serious damage, we can carry out a gentle sand with a mesh disk and top up the lacquer. This will restore dull-looking surfaces and protect the floor from when it was first sanded.
Long-term wood floor maintenance tips
Over time, the lacquered surface will naturally fade. In this case, the floor should be cleaned carefully, lightly sanded and then topped up again with lacquer. The amount of time between maintenance coats should be based on the amount of use floor endures.
If the floors are in heavy use commercial areas like shops and restaurants they will require resealing more often than those in domestic settings. You should have the floors resealed before the lacquer wears through to the wood beneath to avoid scratching the wood. A frequent inspection during cleaning and maintenance will help to identify this.
Wood floor protection methods and tips for our customers in Stockport
Felt pads on Furniture
One of the primary causes of marks and scuffs on wooden floors is dragged furniture. You can mitigate this by applying felt pads to chairs and sofa legs. These pads will not last forever so will need to be replaced occasionally. For office chairs, plastic mats can decrease wear and tear.
Barrier mats
A high-quality barrier mat is the perfect way to keep dirt, grime, water, and grit from damaging your wooden floor. Mats should be the right size and material to suit the type of building and the number of users.

You will find that it is much more difficult to remove dry stains than it is to deal with fresh spillages. You should always make sure that you treat any spillages and stains as quickly as possible.

How to prevent slips and trips
Junckers floor will usually have some slip resistance if it is properly maintained and installed. However, spillages will still make the floor slippery. To decrease the likelihood of an accident you should always clean up spills as quickly as possible.
Using adhesive tape and masking materials
When using tapes and masking materials we always recommend the use of low-tack tapes. The adhesive on tape can sometimes have a very high tack value which can damage protective lacquer if you remove the tape too quickly.
