The wood floor polishing process at WoodMaster Stockport:
- Step 1 – We start with a survey and provide you with a free written estimate. We determine what requirements your wooden floor has and what methods we’ll need to use to get the best out of it. Once we have agreed on the cost of the polishing we will schedule a convenient time and date to attend.
- Step 2 – We’ll begin by stripping all old sealers from the edges right up to the skirting boards. We’ll then treat the floor using our 3 head finishing machine to buff out any fine scratches. This smooths the floor and prepares it for the sealer.
- Step 3 – Finishes and stain options are demonstrated on the floor so the client can get a good impression of the finish. We can also use a natural lacquer to give the floor a natural and lasting finish, or apply a stain that will change the colour and the appearance of the wood.
- Step 4 – We apply a base coat to fill up the wood grain and provide the floor an initial stage of protection.
- Step 5 – The surface is sanded to treat any areas which prickle up from the base coat of the sealer. The wood is now ready for the final finish.
- Step 6 – We will use two coats of top finish, which can be a 1 or 2 pack lacquer, depending on the wood. If the floor has had a colour change or if the smoothness needs taking even further, we can apply oils.
- Step 7 – When the floor is dry the restoration is complete. The floor will be signed off and the furniture can be returned typically in a few hours.
We provide future maintenance guidance and we can give you advice on after-care products if needed.

We are happy to give a ballpark figure from pictures and room sizes, as this can help customer budgeting on renovation projects if they are unsure whether to restore or replace, but ultimately we would need to carry out a full survey and demo before any work can take place.
The length of time required for the floor to dry depends on the type of product that is used. We will advise you once work is complete.
All products used are within the manufacturer’s guidelines, and where applicable your flooring manufacture own brand products can be used.
Depending on the type of wood and condition, excellent results can be achieved with our restoration services as we are bringing back a fresh new layer of the wood. However, an old Victorian pine floor will always look aged and have patina but this is often seen as a positive with the character of a period property.
