The WoodMaster Stockport floor staining process:
- Step 1 – To begin the process we will carry out a site survey. We provide a full written estimate and discuss the best approach for your floor. We agree to the cost and schedule a suitable time and date to carry out the work.
- Step 2 – We will begin by fully sanding the boards to remove all old lacquer and oils. This brings back the virgin boards. We use an industrial belt and planetary sanding machine to make the wooden floor smooth and flat. We have a brand new 3 head machine on modern engineered boards and for cases where a belt sander isn’t suitable.
- Step 3 – When the previous sealer has been stripped away we treat the floor with our 3 head finishing machine to remove micro-fine scratches created during sanding. At this point, the floor is smooth and ready for sealer application.
- Step 4 – We then offer a demonstration of the possible finishes and stain options. We put these directly onto the floor so you can see exactly how the finish will look. We can use a natural lacquer for a standard finish or custom stains can be applied if you would like to change the look of the floor with a new colour.
- Step 5 – A base coat fills up the wood and establishes a first layer of protection.
- Step 6 – Once the base coat is dry, we sand the floor again to remove any areas that push up from the base coat. This prepares the floor for finish coats.
- Step 7 – We apply two coats of top finish. Depending on the type of wood we use a 1 or 2 pack lacquer. Oils can also be used when a colour change is requested or when a higher level of smoothness is required.
- Step 8 – When everything is dry, the floor is ready to use again. We’ll advise you on how long you should leave the floor before walking on it in socks and slippers.
When the work is complete, we will discuss maintenance advice and suitable after-care products.
